Statistically, driving is one of the most dangerous activities people do. While most motorists make it back and forth to their destinations daily with no problems, others are not so lucky. Recently in Texas, there appears to be an increase in traffic-related deaths, with around 12 people losing their lives each day in the Lone Star State. Many of the accidents are caused by red light runners.
Accident death statistics
Last year in 2021, Texas saw an alarming increase in the number of deaths caused by vehicle accidents. There were 4,433 deaths reported on Texas roads in 2021, which is an increase over the number for 2020, which was 3,930. That figure is also an increase from the previous year, when 3,664 deaths were reported.
One reporter points to red right running as one of the causes of the increase. According to the report, a fatal accident occurred in the weekend before Valentine’s Day. The accident was caused by a driver who had run a red light, and it claimed the life of the 25-year-old driver of the vehicle that was hit as well as the wife of the driver of the alleged at-fault vehicle. The alleged at-fault driver was not seriously hurt.
Legal recourse for victims
Whether by running a red light or some other negligent activity, those who ignore the rules of the road put themselves and everyone else in danger. The time it takes to stop at a traffic light is not worth taking someone’s life. Should anyone in Texas suffer serious harm or lose a loved one due to a driver acting recklessly behind the wheel, the individual can work with an experienced personal injury attorney for assistance in obtaining a favorable outcome for a personal injury or wrongful death claim.
