On Behalf of | Mar 17, 2022 | Criminal Defense

A Texas man wanted in the shooting of a sheriff’s deputy has been arrested. The 33-year-old man also faces other charges, and he is being held with no bond. As such, he is likely considering his options for mounting an effective criminal defense.

Details regarding shooting and arrest

The shooting occurred at a store located at LBA Drive and State Highway 95 in Bastrop County. Just after 10:30 p.m. on March 13, officials responded to a call regarding criminal mischief, but they discovered one of their own had been shot. The victim was a deputy with the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, and he was shot twice in the chest and once in the arm.

The deputy’s protective vest may have helped to save the man’s life, but one of the bullets reportedly shattered his arm. He is in the hospital undergoing treatment and is expected to come through the ordeal. The man suspected of the shooting was apprehended sometime later when he was reportedly spotted walking down a street only a few miles away.

Right to defense

Although the case against the accused appears strong and he is charged with shooting a police officer, the man still has the right to mount a criminal defense against the charges against him. Considering the seriousness of the crimes charged, he will want to work closely with an experienced criminal defense attorneyin Texas to increase his chances of obtaining the most successful outcome possible. A lawyer will analyze all aspects of the alleged incident and any evidence prosecutors plan to use in order to devise the most effective defense strategy possible for the accused.
