Austin man charged with vandalizing church

On Behalf of | Apr 14, 2022 | Criminal Defense

Some people in Texas and elsewhere harbor a lot of anger and resentment for whatever reason. Sometimes, these people let their emotions get the better of them and lash out. Instead of lashing out at other people, some individuals take out their anger on physical objects or property that can result in considerable damage. No one knows exactly why one man in Austin felt the need to throw objects at a local church, but his actions got him arrested and charged with vandalizing the church property.

Incident details and arrest

According to reports, officers with the Austin Police Department responded to a call and responded to a church in the eastern part of the city just after 2 a.m. They say they found a man, 33, who was throwing objects at the Cristo del Rey Church. Authorities promptly arrested the man and transported him to Travis County Jail.

Police confirmed that the church’s doors as well as several windows had been damaged. Photos of the scene show several windows completely broken out along with other damage. The man is facing a charge of criminal mischief, a felony.

Right to defense

The report also states that authorities are asking that anyone who has details or videos showing the alleged vandalism to contact authorities.  The report did not specify who initially made the call to police.  Nevertheless, the accused is still presumed innocent until, and only if, convicted in court, which is why he should consult with an experienced criminal defense attorney in Texas to increase his chances of obtaining a successful outcome against the charges of vandalizing that he faces.
